Testy Gossip reports that Air Peace, Nigeria's largest airline, has announced the suspension of all its flight operations nationwide due to the ongoing strike action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). The airline said the decision was taken out of an abundance of caution, prioritizing passenger and crew safety in the absence of critical meteorological services.
In a statement released earlier today, Air Peace emphasized the importance of accurate and timely weather information in ensuring safe flight operations. With NiMet staff withdrawing services as part of a nationwide industrial action, the airline stated that continuing operations without these essential updates would pose unacceptable risks.
“We cannot compromise on safety,” the statement read. “In light of NiMet’s ongoing strike, which affects the provision of essential weather reports and forecasts, we are left with no choice but to suspend all scheduled flights until further notice.”
The airline apologized to passengers for the inconvenience and assured customers that it would resume operations as soon as normal services are restored. Passengers with affected bookings have been advised to contact the airline for further updates or rebooking options.
NiMet employees began the strike earlier this week over unresolved labor issues, including improved working conditions and payment of entitlements. The strike has disrupted aviation operations across the country, with other airlines also expected to face delays or cancellations if the impasse continues.
