Peter Obi’s Political Influence Declining – Lagos LP

Testy Gossip: The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has raised concerns over what it describes as the “visible decline” in the political influence of its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

According to party insiders, Obi’s once surging popularity, which peaked during the last general elections, is beginning to show signs of waning. Analysts within the Lagos chapter believe this stems from weakened grassroots mobilization, internal party wrangling, and increasing disillusionment among some of his supporters.

A senior LP official in Lagos, who is Dayo Ekong, told Testy Gossip that the party risks losing its hard-earned momentum if urgent steps are not taken to address the cracks.

“The Obidient Movement was a force that shook the political system, especially among young Nigerians. But today, enthusiasm is dropping. Many feel disconnected from the leadership, while others are distracted by economic hardship,” the source said.

Political observers note that Obi still commands significant support nationally, particularly among urban youths and professionals. However, the inability to convert the movement into a structured political base across the country remains a major challenge.

The Lagos LP chapter has therefore urged Obi to re-engage with grassroots supporters, strengthen party structures, and reposition his message ahead of future elections.

While critics argue that Obi’s momentum is fading, supporters insist that the former Anambra governor remains one of the strongest opposition voices in Nigeria’s political space.
