Declare Diri’s seat vacant, conduct guber election – Kenneth Okonkwo to INEC
“Declare Diri’s Seat Vacant, Conduct Fresh Election!” – Kenneth Okonkwo Tells INEC
By Testy Gossip
The political fireworks keep exploding! 🎆
Nollywood actor turned politician Kenneth Okonkwo has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the Bayelsa State governorship seat vacant following Governor Douye Diri’s shocking resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Okonkwo, a spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, made the fiery statement during a live interview on Thursday, insisting that once Diri dumped the PDP — the platform on which he was elected — his mandate automatically became invalid.
“The moment Governor Diri left the PDP, his seat should have been declared vacant. He was elected under that party’s umbrella, not as an independent candidate,” Okonkwo stated.
He urged INEC to move swiftly and conduct a fresh gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State to “restore constitutional order” and uphold the sanctity of Nigeria’s democracy.
“The people of Bayelsa voted for the PDP, not for a man who can switch parties at will. Anything short of a new election is a mockery of democracy,” he added.
Okonkwo’s statement comes amid political tension following Diri’s high-profile defection, which has already triggered resignations within the Bayelsa House of Assembly and stirred speculation of an impending mass political realignment ahead of 2027.
Meanwhile, INEC has yet to respond officially to Okonkwo’s demand, but insiders suggest the commission is “monitoring the situation closely.”
As Bayelsa’s political storm rages on, Nigerians are watching closely — and as Testy Gossip can confirm, the 2025 political stage is turning into a full-blown blockbuster. 🎬🇳🇬https://testygossip.com.ng
