Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri Resigns From PDP

By Testy Gossip

In a stunning political twist, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sending shockwaves through the state’s political landscape.

The governor made the surprise announcement during an expanded State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Diri said his decision to quit the PDP was made “for obvious reasons,” though he stopped short of revealing what those reasons were.

While the governor has yet to confirm his next move, insiders say Diri is in advanced talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling what could become one of the most significant political defections in recent Bayelsa history.

The shake-up didn’t stop there — the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, along with the Deputy Speaker and several PDP lawmakers, also resigned their membership from the party, pledging loyalty to Diri’s leadership.

“This is a decision born out of conviction and the need to align with a new political direction for the good of Bayelsa people,” Diri reportedly told the gathering.

The move has already sparked intense speculation about Diri’s political future and the possible collapse of PDP’s dominance in the oil-rich state. Party sources described the governor’s exit as “a major blow” that could reshape the balance of power ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the APC leadership has remained tight-lipped, though sources close to the party hint that high-level discussions are ongoing to finalize Diri’s entry.

For now, Bayelsa’s political scene is on edge — and as one insider put it, “the game has just begun.”https://testygossip.com.ng
